We still can’t travel internationally, but it’s so cool our memories can - especially when triggered by smells and tastes, like the zing of cardamon in my Arabic coffee, which transported me straight back to The West Bank.

Speaker and advocate for peace and justice in Palestine, Issa Shaweesh, invited me to his daughter’s cafe after reading my story in @mindfoodmag. Here in Newtown, Chef Sara Shaweesh offers a mouthwatering vegan slice of Palestine served up with quintessential hospitality: Bedouin pockets; Jerusalem bowls; the best hummus, falafel and Knaffeh I’ve eaten since I trekked The Palestine Heritage Trail (@ph_trail ) with guide @anwardawabsha - a journey hosted by families that will be forever embedded in my heart. I’ve had my sights set on the 65-km Overland Track - one of @greatwalksofoz - since I first got the bug for tramping in Snowdonia and the Lake District all those la-la years ago.

Alas, we only had time to do the first ten percent. Thankfully, The Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area* turns on the lights from the first step, where a surreal sun-soaked uniformity of button-grassed plains fail miserably to camouflage podgy pottering wombats. Mossy rainforest, craggy peaks and reflective glacial lakes of universal importance backdrop the rest of the Cradle Mountain to Dove Lake hike, to create a raw yet sometimes semi-manicured show of nature’s grandest design. It goes straight to the top of our best day walks chart and left us wanting more ... a great wrap for our Tassie Trip.

Rain doesn’t necessarily stop play on the grippy granite all-weather dirt of @bluederby Starting on its subalpine namesake plateau, the 22km Blue Tier trail plunges into the punchy aniseed scents of dense, native Tasmanian rainforest, where monolithic granite boulders stand sentinel over tunnels of giant tree ferns, branches drip with near-fluorescent moss and shards of ethereal light pierce dark volcanic dirt. If goblins existed they’d live here.
